Health: Sickness caused by viruses
Up to now the transmission of viruses causing sickness via air conditioning systems has been an unsolved problem. According to the European Standard VDI 6022, the level of dust, bacteria, moulds and biological substances such as viruses in the air supplied to rooms may not exceed that of the outside air. Viruses are predestined to be transmitted to people and due to their small size can only be seen under an electronic microscope.
Even F7 filters are no use here as they are too coarsely meshed allowing viruses to pass through them. UV-C radiation is the only way to specifically inactivate viruses and prevent their transmission via circulating air in buildings.
Installation of the AirStream UV-C disinfection unit in the ventilation system inactivates any viruses. If there is a rotary spray humidifier for humidifying the air we recommend the integration of a WasherProtec in the water circulation. In unventilated rooms we recommend the use of the disinfection unit AirCom O2 . It goes without saying that all other micro-organisms such as bacteria and moulds that can cause illnesses are also destroyed.
Health: UV-C radiation reduces the level of employee illness
Even before publication of the “Lancet” study by scientists at Montreal University, Canada on 29.11.2003 it had been clearly proved that employee absence due to sickness caused by microbial and endotoxic contamination of ventilation and air conditioning systems can be drastically reduced by the integration of UV-C systems.
The study showed that UV-C radiation led to a 99% reduction in the concentration of microbes and endotoxins in the ventilation systems. Respiratory problems in the persons studied fell by 40% and mucus membrane problems were reduced by 30%. Complaints involving muscular aches fell by 50% in the non-smoking group.
Integration of UV-C in existing air conditioning systems
Thanks to our many years of practical experience, the integration of UV-C disinfection systems in existing air conditioning units is a simple matter. This applies to air conditioning systems in food processing companies and also to ventilation applications in administrative departments, office buildings or public institutions.
The equipment is fitted as required to meet planning, construction and operating specifications and considering relevant process data. The additional disinfection function upgrades ventilation systems and ensures an excellent cost/benefit ratio right from the start. Modernisation of existing systems
Considerably more than half of all ventilation and air conditioning systems do not meet the hygiene requirements of VDI 6022. In particular, water-conducting and wet equipment parts such as dehumidifiers and rotary spray humidifiers are ideal breeding grounds for mould spores, bacteria and viruses. However, this also applies to air filters that run at more than 80% relative humidity.
Old systems therefore release millions of germs and present a health risk to the people exposed to them. The relevant standards and regulations to ensure faultless indoor air quality will be tightened in future. UV-C disinfection systems from Advanced Air Hygiene are simple and inexpensive to fit in existing systems. They offer an excellent opportunity for quick and lasting modernisation of old, germ-contaminated air conditioning systems by bringing them up to a reliable hygiene standard once more.

Integration of UV-C in refrigeration equipment
Advanced Air Hygiene disinfection technology makes a decisive contribution to improving plant hygiene in food production by ensuring hygienically clean air in air conditioning systems. It is being increasingly deployed in refrigeration equipment as an integral part of refrigeration plants and equipment or as an attachment – for example in evaporators.

Exhaust air purification with UV-C
KitTech is an innovative solution for areas where fats are heated or where food is roasted, cooked or fried. In the KitTech the contaminated air is irradiated with special UV-C ozone lamps, triggering photolytic oxidation. Organic substances such as fats and odours are “cold burned” and, depending on the application, up to 99% of them are destroyed. This effectively neutralises the air that was previously very polluted with grease and may also have had a very strong and unpleasant smell.
Further advantages: Minimisation of maintenance and cleaning costs, greatly reduced fire risk, longer service life for all technical components of the exhaust air system. The food industry, restaurants (including fast food restaurants), canteens, and snack bars are ideal fields of application.
